Busted neck in Dusseldorf, waiting for a plane
Feeling just like Schroedinger’s guitar
Moggie dragged a D-string down, begging me to change
The one it’s got night now’s well under par
I pulled my last plastic from my fat old man’s style wallet
Playing luthier ‘cause I can’t play the blues
My cat climbed in the guitar case, now he’s stuck inside
Half a chance the cat is going to lose
Schroedinger’s another word for sheer uncertainty
Moggy ain’t worth nothing ‘til he’s free
Stubby fingers say that I can’t play reliably
Shavin’ necks is good enough for me
Hope it’s nothing bad for my kitty
From the Wichita phone lines to the California dreams
A guitar’s been the soundtrack of my soul
Every chord of “Peggy Sue”, “Oh, Pretty Woman” too
The wisdom of those lyrics kept me whole
Then somewhere in my twenties, Lord, I let it get away
Searching for a day job, and I sadly found it
This busted guitar’s still the same, I gotta get it fixed
And hope my cat is going to come around…
Note: Jeff wrote the first couplet and published it on his Mastodon account. I responded with the next couplet, and we went back and forth until I finished it up. This happened during July and August 2026. You can reach Jeff on Mastodon at @punishmenthurts@autistics.life
