Good Works
I got home from the Festival about 12:30 Sunday, and then around 3:30 my friend Singer called and said she hadn’t slept for days, could she please take an hour nap on my couch. About 10 or so she was awake again, said she felt better but didn’t sleep much… so I sang to her for a long time and she fell back to sleep. She left about 3:30 today. It was wonderful having her around… I also made sure she ate something and did a Tarot reading for her.
From about 3 pm to 6 pm other friends of mine and I debated whether we were having our Asheville Radical Mental Health Collective meeting, as it looked like rain and we meet in a park. We determined that we were going to go ahead, after all there was a roof there (picnic area, but no tables). Singer showed up late, but brought another friend named Scott with her.
During the meeting, it turned out that Scott was diabetic and homeless among other things, and hadn’t eaten for quite a while. Molly got some crackers and candy to bring up his blood sugar, and after the meeting he came home with me. I got him some food (chips and a pot pie) and talked a lot, then we watched “A Knight’s Tale” and all the special features that were on the DVD. Between other phone calls (Andrea and her husband are in a motel room tonight, homeless in Pensacola; Aianna needed some advice; Frankie wanted to talk about Paganism and Hinduism; etc.), we finally got things settled down and Scott is asleep on the couch. Another case of a one-hour nap turning into an evening-and-sleepover.
I love this stuff, it really picks me up to be helping my friends, or anyone for that matter.
