I chatted with my 5th tech on HP Chat tonight, and she gave me the phone number for HP’s phone tech support. I then called that, and talked to a nice young man named Jacob who actually sounded American. Among other things, he told me that the most he could do was “escalate the call” so that a supervisor would call me back in 1-2 business days. This is the 4th person to escalate the call, although to be fair the past two times have not had the 1-2 business days yet, but the first one was on August 9th.<\/p>\n
I did learn something. They did NOT replace my motherboard when the machine was sent in. They merely did what I have done several times already, which is reload the software. Since it loaded fine, they didn’t question anything, just sent the machine back. If they had checked my report or any of my previous chats with HP techs, they would have known that I had done that several times — and they would have checked to make sure it actually completed installation, which, apparently, they didn’t. Another case of the customer being assumed to be stupid, whereas it is actually the techs’ assumptions which are insufficiently informed.<\/p>\n
Ah well. Someday I might have a working computer. I could just break down and have THIS machine fixed by a real (local) tech, but that would leave me without Internet for at least a couple of days. When and if I get another working computer, I can do it myself, but in the meantime the only thing I could do would destroy my old data, and I don’t want to go through that again.<\/p>\n
Oh yeah. The laptop. I got a response from the company I bought it from. I have three options, the best of which (and the one which I intend to exercise) is replacement — and if they are out of this model, I will get a better model. However, I have to wait for an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number before returning it. So that one is at least a few days to a week before it will be fixed.<\/p>\n
I guess it proves that moss should not get into cybernetics… LOL<\/p>\n
