Nor can there be a form of pain forgiveness cannot heal.
– from A Course In Miracles

This is no mystery. Only one who is hurting strikes out against others. And I ask you, how many of you are not hurting? How many of you are not striking out in little ways against others? The difference between you and the one who rapes and murders is not as big as you think. I do not say this to make you feel bad. I say this to help you wake up to your responsibility to your brother. If you can forgive yourself for having thoughts of revenge, why can’t you forgive the man or woman who acts with vengeance? This person merely acts out what you have thought about. I am not justifying the act of vengeance. I cannot justify any attack, and I am not suggesting that you do. I am simply asking you why do you cast this brother out of your heart? He is perhaps even more desperate for love and forgiveness than you are. Would you withhold it from him?
– Paul Ferrini, Love Without Conditions

When you understand the nature of your sadness you can acknowledge it, accept it, honor it, and do anything else with it that you choose, including paying homage to it and building a shrine to it. But in the end, when you want to dissolve it, bring in the faster/higher energy of joy and you can give it a big, wet kiss good-bye as it floats out of your life. Sadness simply cannot survive simultaneously with the energy of joy. Why? Because it is unreal, and therefore cannot exist except in your ego-mind’s eye. God’s love is real. Joy is God’s Love. And joy can never be threatened.
Wayne Dyer, There’s a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem

The most beautiful and profound emotion we can experience is the sensation of the mystical. It is the sower of all true science. Yet life would be hopelessly more painful if there were no consequences.

If actions had no consequences, there would be no reliable way to achieve anything. There would be no way for you to direct or control the circumstances of your life.

As it is, you can choose the consequences you experience by choosing the actions that bring about those consequences. You are able, in large part, to avoid the consequences you don’t want and to create the consequences you desire.

By taking responsibility for the consequences in your life, you gain the power to determine what those consequences will be. By accepting and embracing responsibility for the outcomes of your actions, you are able to bring about the outcomes you prefer.

In each moment, with each choice you make, consider what that choice will bring. You have the power to create your own results.

Choose your actions with care and positive intent, and you’ll like the consequences they bring.

– Ralph Marston

=====

Forgiveness and Your Health

How forgiving are you?

You may know that forgiveness is good for your peace of mind because it involves a letting go of anger and resentment. However, recent psychological research has found that forgiveness may also be good for your physical health. In a study of people who had experienced betrayal in romantic, family, or work relationships, it was found that the more forgiving individuals tended to have lower blood pressures and also demonstrated less physical tension. Two factors related to improved health.

Holding on to the anger and hurt of betrayal is understandable, but eventually it leads to chronic resentment, which has been described as the poison that you take yourself in the hope that the other person will die. Resentment only poisons you with emotional distress, and frequently it aggravates physical symptoms such as headaches, backaches, and stomach problems. To be healed of resentment’s negative effects, requires the letting-go that is forgiveness.

However, forgiveness is difficult, and its first requirement is clearly understanding that forgiveness is for you. It is not done for the benefit of the person who hurt you, but in order to make your life better.

Second, forgiving is neither forgetting nor approving. It’s a letting go of emotional pain. Furthermore, to forgive does not wipe the painful event from your memory and certainly doesn’t imply condoning what happened.

Third, and most importantly, forgiveness is a choice. It will not simply come with the passage of time or through a fading of emotions. Forgiveness is an act done with intention, and often it isn’t a once-and-for-all event. The same hurt may resurface in many forms before forgiveness is complete.

Nonetheless, it is only through forgiveness that you will be released from resentment’s grasp and, ultimately, it’s forgiveness that improves not only your mood but, perhaps, your physical health as well.

Daniel H.
