For those of you who just KNEW somewhere in your heart that today was about more than some rodent in Pennsylvania…

Happy Imbolc!

…also called Oimelg by the Druids (pronounced Imm – olg), Candlemas by
the English, and other names throughout the world.  This is a
major holiday in nearly all pagan calendars, a “cross-quarter”
day.  Quarter days are the equinoxes and solstices —
cross-quarter days are the High Holidays, the heart of each
season.  Imbolc is the time when it becomes clear that the Sun is
returning and the days are lengthening.  It is traditional to
light all your candles tonight and burn them all night or until they
burn out, to show the Sun what light is and how much you yearn for it.

Since candles are mostly (especially traditionally) made of fat, this
means that you are burning all the fat in your house (WeightWatchers,
take note!) and will then go out and replace it.  Can you say
“Mardi Gras” boys and girls?  I knew you could…

Let us rejoice!  The Sun is coming back!

Hugs,

Me
