I think I just ran into a new scam, and stayed out of it.  I got a phone call which said something like, “You are eligible for a reduced interest rate on your Visa or Mastercard.  To speak to a representative about this reduced rate, please press 1 now; to be removed from this list, please press 2 now.”

Of course I pressed 1.  After a moment, a man came on the line and started reading his blurb, “Because of your steady payment on your Visa or Mastercard, you are eligible for a reduced rate.  Are you interested in …”

I interrupted him and said, “Which creditor are you calling about?”

“Excuse me?  This is for your Visa or Mastercard…”

“Which card?”

“<silence>”

“Sir?”

“<click>”

I could be wrong, but it sounds like they were expecting someone to be so excited about getting a reduced interest rate on their credit card that they would give out all their information before asking which credit card they were calling about.  Sorry, wrong number.
