I got to bed around 7:15 this morning and started meditating… fell asleep… and was awakened about 8:30 by a friend calling me on the phone.  Sean told me that a woman I know, Colby Thompson, who came to Asheville about 3 months ago, was arrested for 2nd Degree Murder in New York… I couldn’t find anything on the website for Citizen-Times, so I had to get up and get a paper.  Yup.  There it was.  Bottom left, Section B, Page 1.

I suppose it could have been worse.  She knew I was single, and occasionally offered to let me help her at her new store, but it didn’t happen; she never invited me to her house, we never even thought about getting involved.  But she could have.  And then it would have involved me somewhat in this mess.

I guess I should say innocent until proven guilty.  The story says she suffocated her father with a pillow, and that he was 95.  It said she tried to make it appear like natural causes, and then fled the state for Asheville.  It doesn’t say anything about the health of her father.  I wonder how many years in jail you get for killing a 95-year-old man?

I hope it’s not true, but I’m sure she’ll be in NY facing the charges.  The article said she was to be transported later today.

Now maybe I can get some sleep.
