Getting It

I had to take the bus today to go see the doctor.  Due to the fact I can’t walk to the bus stop until my foot heals quite a bit more than it has done, I had my temporary roomie drive me down there on his way to work.

On the bus, a couple of women were talking to me about my foot.  One of them said, “Well, I’ll pray for a miracle for you.”  Usually I’d say (or think) something semi-cynical, at least something like, oh it won’t take a miracle… before I could even start thinking, what popped out of my mouth was, “Every breath is a miracle.”  Wow.  I’m saying things like that automatically.  That’s highly encouraging.  I’ve been giving myself and others good advice for some time now, but this is a sign that it’s really sinking in.

Later on, I went to the downtown Subway to get lunch.  When I got back to the park, I went to get a toothpick out of my wallet/organizer … and found that I’d left it in Subway.  I’d already walked too much on my healing foot, and dreaded walking back there (about 2 blocks).  I saw my friend Atty, a homeless lady whom I’ve known for some years, and yelled at her that I had left it at the Subway.  She was already gone to go get it before I could tell her where in the shop to look.  Well, it’s a good thing she went — some girl (about 20, Atty said) had found it and claimed it as her own, as was about to get away with it.  Atty wouldn’t let her, and almost had to force her to give it back, but she got it.  Several other people heard about this and came up to me; one in particular said that I help too many people for them to allow me to get ripped off.

I keep leaving this organizer places, this is about the 4th time.  I’m either going to have to find one I’ll remember to hang on to or staple it to my thigh.  But so far, I’ve managed to get it back, and I’m quite thankful for that.

I saw Dr. Lily today about my foot.  (I usually get her husband, Dr. Chris.  They are both Drs. Moore, and so are called by their first names in the office.)  She said it is healing well but I’m on it too much.  The incision should have totally closed by now, and it is still opening and leaking.  But at least there is no infection and it all looks healthy enough.  Of course, tomorrow is Thursday, always my busy day… hope I can keep it short and get back home with my foot propped up.

Guess that’s about it for now.  Always more to be thankful for.

Hugs,
Me

  1. I’m feeling the mom in me come out. Watch out…here it comes…..GET OFF OF THAT FOOT! Taking a few weeks to sit back and relax and heal is important. Not disrupting your schedule too much is not worth the long term damage (infections!) that can occur. Take care of yourself for a little while.
